Durham:  It's Not All Business

Those who consider purchasing Durham, NC real estate don't do so only for the professional opportunities, although those are manifold. Durham is home to several fine educational institutions, including Duke University, North Carolina Central University, the NC School of Science and Math, and Durham Technical Community College. The University of North Carolina's Chapel Hill campus is only a few miles away by car or bus.  Other educational opportunities include the Watts School of Nursing, the Maranatha Christian College, Mount Olive College, and Nova Southeastern University.  Durham, NC real estate is a smart investment for parents with a child enrolled in college in Durham, or for an investor looking to rent a property to University students.

Durham is also home to a thriving arts and cultural scene, and owners of Durham, NC real estate will find no lack of art venues in the city.  The new Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University features permanent and special exhibits galleries, sculpture gardens, and a café. The North Carolina Central University Art Museum houses African-American art from the 19th and 20th centuries, and provides a showcase for student art.  Various murals, sculptures, and other public artworks are featured throughout the city. For performing arts, the Carolina Theater has a 1016-seat hall, as well as two smaller theaters for art films. Baldwin Auditorium at Duke University hosts theater, dance and musical performances, as well as student performances and lectures.

The beautiful countryside of Durham County is an ideal location for outdoor recreation. Golf courses abound (public, private, and semi-private), as do nature preserves, hiking trails, and scenic waterways. The Duke Forest has been preserved as a natural treasure and research area since the 1930s, and the Jordan Lake Wetlands/State Recreation Area is a perfect place for bird watching. There are also several biking and walking trails in Durham County and in the city of Durham itself.  All of these things combine to make Durham, NC real estate the ideal choice for people who want the best of both worlds: a trendy, urban environment where every convenience is at hand, and the quiet beauty of natural forests, wetlands and waterways right around the corner.
